NOTICE OF CIVIL SERVICE EXAMFIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

The City of Napoleon is accepting applications beginning Monday, March 4, 2013 thru Friday, March 29, 2013 for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. This position is responsible for fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical service for the protection of life and property. Approximate pay range: $38,324.00 to $50,754.00 per year. Applicant must meet the following requirements: 18 years of age at the time of application, high school graduate or equivalent, certified by the State of Ohio as a Basic Ohio Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic at time of appointment, and pass the written exam and physical agility test.
Applicant must also become certified as an Ohio Firefighter II within one (1) year of appointment. Applications may be secured beginning Monday, March 4, 2013 from the City of Napoleon’s Administration Building, 255 West Riverview Avenue, Napoleon, Ohio 43545, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday or downloaded from the City of Napoleon’s Website,www.napoleonohio.com and click Administration. A properly completed notarized application must be returned by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013 to the above address to the attention of the Civil Service Commission c/o Sheryl Rathge with a copy of a high school diploma/GED and a State of Ohio EMT and Paramedic Certificates if applicant has these although not necessary until appointment. For additional scoring credit applicant must also submit a copy of an Ohio Firefighter II Certification, DD214, and/or transcripts verifying anAssociate degree or higher from an accredited college or university with your application.

Testing date for the written exam will be held on SaturdayMay 11, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. at the Napoleon Fire Department, 265 West Riverview, Napoleon, Ohio 43545. The physical agility test will be administered that same day to applicants passing the written exam. he City of West Memphis is seeking Paramedics/Firefighter’s and EMT/Firefighter’s. These are full time positions with benefits. When working as EMT’s and Paramedics they provide outstanding 911 and ambulance transportation services to the surrounding area, and when working as Firefighters they respond to emergency situations and primarily protect people, the environment and property from all types of accident and emergencies. They work closely with the local community to increase their level of fire safety awareness in order to help prevent fires and accidents occurring in the first place.

Education, Experience and Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the minimum requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must be 18 years of age and pass a drug screen, background check, physical, psychological evaluation, and agility test.
  • Paramedics and EMT’s must also meet Arkansas State Certification requirements within a determined amount of time from the date of hire.
Salary Range: non-exempt $ 29,736 - $ 45,336 annually pending experience and certifications.

WHEREAS, on December 3, 2012, the Charleston Firefighters Civil Service Commission was notified by the Honorable Danny Jones,Mayor of the City of Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia that vacancies exist within the Charleston Fire Department for the positions of a PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTER PARAMEDIC, and has requested the Charleston Firefighters Civil Service Commission to establish an Eligibility List for appointment to the positions of Probationary Firefighter Paramedic.
THEREFORE, all persons desiring to seek employment with the Charleston Fire Department, City of Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia,please TAKE NOTICE as Follows:
1. A competitive written examination will be administered by the Charleston by Firefighters Civil Service Commission at the Charleston Civic Center in the City of Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the 25h day of March, 2013. All applicants are required to check in with the Registration Desk at 5:00 p.m. on March 25, 2013
2.An eligible paramedic may sign up for the position.
3.To be eligible to take the examination, each interested person must file an application with the Charleston Fire Department, Recruiting Office, located at 808 Virginia Street West, Charleston, West Virginia, or at the City Clerk's office in the City Building, corner of Virginia and Court Streets, Charleston, West Virginia.
4.Beginning on January 2, 2013 through March 4, 2013, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding legal holidays), applications will be available for use in enrolling for the examination. Applications may be obtained at the City Clerk's office in the City Building, comer of Virginia and Court Streets, Charleston, West Virginia. All completed applications for the written, examination for the position of Probationary Firefighter Paramedic must be submitted to the City Clerk's office in the City Building, corner of Virginia and Court Streets, Charleston, West Virginia, no later than 4:00 p.m. on March 4, 2013.
5.(a) Applicants may not be under the age of 18 years nor over the age of 35 years on the date of his or her application. Satisfactory proof of age shall be required of each applicant upon submission of his or her application.
(b) All applicants must: (i) possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, (ii) have no felony convictions, (iii) have no convictions within five (5) years of a misdemeanor offense involving larceny, false swearing, gambling, or other crime indicating questionable moral character. (iv) must have no habitual use of alcohol or drugs, and (v) for the position of Probationary Firefighter Paramedic the applicant must be a Certified Paramedic and, if a non-resident of West Virginia, must be able to Obtain certification in West Virginia.
6.All applicants successfully completing the written examination for the position of Probationary Firefighter Paramedic shall be required to submit to the following additional examinations:
(a) Pass one or more medical examinations on the requirements of NFPA 1582 of the Standard on Medical Requirements for Firefighters. Inquiry about the Standard may be made to the Fire Chief at the Recruiting Office.
(b)Pass the physical agility examination that complies with the requirements of the Charleston Fire Department. Inquiry about these requirements may be made to the Fire Chief at the Recruiting Office.
(c)A background investigation to verify, all pertinent information concerning the applicant; and
(d)Psychological testing to determine the applicant's suitability for appointment,
7.All written tests shall conform to the requirements of the Uniform Guidelines of Employees Selection Procedures, 28 CFR 50.14 and 29 CFR 51.53.
